This year, the Yellow Jacket Flying Club (YJFC) proudly participated in the annual Girls in Aviation Day event, hosted by Women in Aviation at our home base, DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. Following last year’s event at Covington Airport, we were excited to welcome K-12 students from across the region to explore the world of aviation right here in our community.
Throughout the day, YJFC representatives shared insights into aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech, providing young minds with the inspiration to pursue careers in aviation. We also discussed the exciting opportunities available through YJFC for aspiring pilots, walking both kids and their parents through the process of becoming a pilot.
One of the event highlights was showcasing our very own Cessna 182. Kids and parents alike were fascinated as we introduced them to the basic flight controls and avionics. It was a great opportunity to give them a hands-on experience, sparking curiosity about what it takes to fly and operate an aircraft.
Girls in Aviation Day has always been about encouraging the next generation of aviators, and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it again this year. It was a day filled with learning, excitement, and a glimpse into the future of aviation, led by young and ambitious minds.
